(22-6-5), 2nd SPHL, 49 Pts

LAST TIME OUT: Dmytro Babenko scored in the third period and the Rail Yard Dawgs pressured late but ultimately fell to the Fayetteville FireAntz, 4-2, Friday night at the Crown Coliseum. Ryan de Melo made 33 saves on 36 shots and Zach Tatrn registered a goal and an assist.
THE OTHER GUYS: The Macon Mayhem enter Saturday's tilt alone in second place in the SPHL with 49 points. Macon's calling card has been its defense, as it averages 2.4 goals against per game, the second stingiest goal-scoring defense in the league. The Mayhem have now won four straight and their victory on Friday against Knoxville pushed their road record to 14-3-2. The Dawgs have hosted the Mayhem once this season and defeated them in overtime, 3-2, on 12/30.
VALLEY SWEET VALLEY: The Rail Yard Dawgs begin a stretch of four consecutive home games on Saturday, on the heels of playing six straight on the road. Roanoke has gone 7-9-3 on Berglund Center ice this season as opposed to 5-9-2 away from home.
HE FEELS LIKE BUSTIN' LOOSE: Zach Tatrn tallied a goal and an assist during Friday's 4-2 loss in Fayetteville, snapping a five-game point drought. It was Tatrn's second two-point game with the Rail Yard Dawgs and he now has two goals and four assists over 12 games for Roanoke. Tatrn registered 24 points over 26 games with Port Huron of the Federal Hockey League before joining the Dawgs on 1/12.
THEY'VE BEEN BUSY: Roanoke is in the midst of three games in three days, the fourth time in the last five weeks that the Dawgs will have played a three-in-three.
LIKE RIDING A BIKE: Jackson Brewer dished out an assist in Friday's 4-2 loss in Fayetteville and now has five points in his three games since returning from injury. Despite missing 13 games on injured reserve, Brewer is third on the team with 22 points in 22 games. He is the only Rail Yard Dawg to average a point per game.
REVOLVING DOOR: In the past week the Rail Yard Dawgs have acquired defenseman Mike Donnellan in exchange for Tyler Gjurich, signed Jeremy Beirnes to a contract and saw Mike Driscoll, Travis Armstrong and Ryan de Melo loaned to ECHL teams. de Melo was returned on Friday after appearing in one game as a backup for the Swamp Rabbits.
ADDED GRIT: Jeremy Beirnes spent the 2015-16 season with the Huntsville Havoc and lead the SPHL in penalty minutes (275). The forward was acquired for future considerations on 1/21 and has yet to appear in a game this season due to offseason injury. Beirnes is expected to make his Rail Yard Dawgs debut on Saturday.
UP NEXT: Roanoke and Macon will tango again on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 3:05 PM at the Berglund Center.
