Mississippi RiverKings News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (22-15-2) fell short Saturday night against the Huntsville Havoc (26-7-2) 4-2 in Huntsville for their first loss to the Havoc since January 14. The RiverKings trailed early on but managed to tie the game up in the second period before two unanswered goals in the third gave the Havoc the win.
Devin Mantha took a tripping penalty early in the first to give the Havoc the power play advantage that led to Jordan Wood's goal that he put in off a slap shot from the point from Nolan Kaiser. A stolen puck and quick passing gave the Havoc their second goal on a wrist shot from Lou Educate to extend the lead in the first.
The RiverKings brought the game back to within one in the second off of Matt Harrington's power play goal. Ryan Marcuz evened the game back up in the middle of the second scoring from the top of the left circle on a slap shot after stealing the puck at the Havoc's blue line.
In the third, Nolan Kaiser shot Lou Educate's rebound past Peter Di Salvo to give the Havoc back the lead, a lead they would hold and extend. The Havoc put the game out of reach on Scott Fellnermayer's backhanded shot over Di Salvo on a pass from John Schiavo to find the open Fellnermayer in the slot.
Peter Di Salvo (8-5-0) made 35 saves on 39 shots in the losing effort for the RiverKings. Tyler Steel (14-3-1) picks up the win and stopped 25 of the RiverKings 27 shots.
The RiverKings converted one of their five power play opportunities while allowing one of two opportunities for the Havoc.
