Prince Albert Raiders News Release

The Prince Albert Raiders picked up their sixth win in seven games, beating the Central Division leading Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday night at the Art Hauser Centre. Niall Crocker had two first period goals, while Landon Kosior, Keaton Sorensen, and Sloan Stanick rounded out the scoring in the win.

Crocker scored twice in the first period to help put the Raiders in front. His first goal of the opening frame came on Prince Albert's first powerplay opportunity. From the left circle, Crocker fired a shot far side, off the post and in for his 14th goal of the season. Keaton Sorensen and Ryder Ritchie picked up assists on the opening goal of the game.

The exact same three players connected again in the same order on the scoresheet, as Crocker scored his second of the night to make it 2-0. Ritchie fired a shot on goal that was stopped by Kyle Kelsey, but the rebound came in front for Sorensen. He was denied in close but Crocker was not, as the big forward buried his second goal of the night to make it 2-0 with 5:42 left in the first.

With just nine seconds left in the first, Landon Kosior made it 3-0. After a Rebels player lost their stick near the point, Eric Johnston controlled the play at the blue line. Johnston passed to the right circle to Kosior, who fired a shot on goal. The defenceman got some help in the process, as his shot went off of a Rebels stick near the crease, beating Kelsey. The late goal gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead, as tempers flared between both sides as the period came to an end.

Both teams combined for three goals in the second period, with the Rebels getting the upper hand scoring twice. Red Deer got on the board 4:58 into the middle frame as Jace Isley scored his 27th goal of the season to make it a 3-1 game. Keaton Sorensen answered with 3:50 left in the second, scoring his 21st goal of the campaign to restore the Raiders' three goal lead, making it 4-1.

With just 2.5 seconds left in the second, the Rebels scored a powerplay goal with Landon Kosior in the box. A nice passing play was converted by Jhett Larson, who fired home his 14th of the season, making it a 4-2 Raider lead after 40 minutes.

After missing on a scoring chance in the second period, Sloan Stanick scored the only goal of the third period, and it came with 5:12 left in regulation. For the second straight season, Stanick reached the 20 goal plateau, as he made it a 5-2 game with his tally.

From there, the Raiders were able to shut things down. Max Hildebrand stopped 19 of 21 Red Deer shots for his 11th win of the season, as the Raiders improved to 25-29-3-0 on the season.

Prince Albert is back in action on Friday night as they welcome the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Puck drop is 7pm.
