Raiders Mourn the Passing of Ron Gunville
December 11, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders are deeply saddened by the passing of Director of Player Personnel Ron Gunville.
Ron passed away peacefully this afternoon surrounded by friends and family at Victoria Hospital. Ron is survived by his wife Sherry, son Reed, daughter Taryn, father Chick, brother Trevor and family, mother-in-law Sunni Williams, and Sherry's siblings and family.
"The best parts of my day were spent with Ron either in our office or on the phone," said Raiders General Manager Curtis Hunt. "We shared the same passion and vision to build an outstanding program from the ground up."
Ron's fingerprints are all over this year's edition of the Prince Albert Raiders. He joined his hometown Raiders as the Assistant Director of Player Personnel. He took over the Director of Player Personnel role after Dale Derkatch's departure to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The team represents all of Ron's best qualities: resilient, tenacious, and talented.
In his playing days, Ron spent parts of three WHL seasons between the Raiders and the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Ron's legacy lives on in our players, scouts, staff, and everyone involved with the Prince Albert Raiders.
Out of respect for the family, the Raiders will make no further comment. Funeral and donation details will be announced by the family at a later date.
