April 24, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Edmonton, AB - For the first time in the 2019 WHL Playoffs, the Prince Albert Raiders find themselves behind in a series.
On Tuesday night at Rogers Place, the Raiders fell 5-1 to Edmonton Oil Kings in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Championship. The Oil Kings lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.
Sean Montgomery scored the lone Raiders' goal in the game. Vince Loschiavo and Trey Fix-Wolansky each had three points on the night.
Ian Scott was the busier of the two goalies in a scoreless first period, making nine saves in the opening 20 minutes. Dylan Myskiw stopped five Raider attempts, including a knuckling attempt by Brett Leason.
At the 1:27 mark of the second, the Oil Kings opened the scoring. Vince Loschiavo got behind the Raiders defence and was sprung on a breakaway. Loschiavo skated in and snapped a shot past Scott for his sixth of the post-season.
The Raiders responded with two great chances. On a set play off an offensive draw, Parker Kelly found space in the slot but was unable to beat Myskiw. Then, Cole Fonstad got behind the defence but didn't find the back of the net.
Midway through the period, Zack Hayes was able to knock the puck down in the offensive end and get a shot away, but it hit the post. As the Oil Kings turned the other way, Trey Fix-Wolansky found a trailing Conner McDonald who beat Scott to put Edmonton up 2-0 with 10:12 left in the second.
Exactly five minutes later, Edmonton increased their lead. Fix-Wolansky found Loschiavo with a cross-ice pass and the Winnipeg, MB product buried the one-timer for his second goal of the game.
Edmonton added another before the end of the period. Matthew Robertson picked up a puck in the slot, skated to the centre of the zone, and fired a shot past Scott with 1:06 to play.
With three-tenths of a second left in the second, the Raiders got on the board with a late power play. Sean Montgomery pounced on a rebound and fired a shot past Myskiw to make it a 4-1 game with his eighth goal of the WHL Playoffs.
In the third, the Raiders pushed at the beginning of the period with the momentum from the last-second goal. However, a few penalties in the third derailed some of the momentum. With 3:55 to play, Josh Williams rounded out the scoring on the power play with his second goal of the post-season.
Scott finished the game with 34 saves in the loss. Myskiw stopped 28 Raider attempts on goal in the win.
The series resumes on Wednesday night for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Championship in Edmonton at Rogers Place. Game time is 7 p.m.
The Eastern Conference Championship will return to Prince Albert on Friday, April 26 for Game 5 of the series. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets for Game 5 go on sale on Thursday, April 25 at 9 a.m. at the Art Hauser Centre box office. Online ticket sales begin at 10 a.m.
