Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Regina, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders (1-1-0-0) lost their first game of the 2021 WHL Pre-Season on Saturday night, falling 6-2 to the Regina Pats (2-1-0-1) at the Brandt Centre on Saturday night.

Evan Herman and Michael Horon found the back of the net for the Raiders in the loss. Cole Carrier tallied a hat trick in the win for the Pats.

Carter Chorney got the scoring started for the Pats with 5:55 to play in the opening period. Zack Smith's shot from the point deflected off a Raider in front. Chorney was able to get his stick on the puck to redirect it past Max Hildebrand for the only goal of the first frame.

The Pats doubled their lead with a shorthanded marker with 7:15 to play in the second. Carrier pounced on a turnover and skated in on a breakaway to beat Hildebrand.

On the same penalty, the Raiders were able to cut back into the lead with a power-play marker. Tayem Gislason led a two-on-one rush into the Pats' end and dished to Horon. The overager scored his second of the WHL Pre-Season to make it a 2-1 game for Regina.

Before the end of the period, the Pats struck on a power play of their own. Cole Dubinsky wired a shot past Hildebrand to give the Pats a 3-1 advantage with 41 seconds left in the middle frame.

Carrier struck shorthanded again 3:10 into the third period to increase the Pats' lead to three.

Herman was able to get the goal back quickly for the Raiders. Less than three minutes later, he threw a puck towards the front of the net that bounced off the skate of a Pat and past Matthew Kieper.

It was as close as the Raiders came to tying things up as Dubinsky added another power-play goal followed by Carrier completing his shorthanded hat trick in the final five minutes of the third.

Hildebrand finished the game with 27 saves in his second consecutive Pre-Season start. Kieper also stopped 27 shots for the Pats.

The next Raiders' home game is on Friday, September 24 against the Saskatoon Blades in the final home pre-season contest of the year. It is also Aliaksei Protas Bobblehead Night, presented by The Car Guys at Mann-Northway Chevrolet Buick GMC.

The Raiders open the 2021-22 WHL season on Friday, October 1 at home against the Pats. Game time is 7 p.m. Single-game tickets are available now.
