Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Madison, WI - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (7-14, 23-32 overall) lost the season-series finale against the Madison Mallards (15-5, 31-24 overall) Saturday night. Brandon Hohl crushed his seventh homer, but Wisconsin Rapids fell 5-2 at Warner Park.
The Rafters scored first and last on Saturday. In the first, Brandon Downes (FR, Univ. of Virginia) doubled in Jordan Dreiling (JR, Univ. of Kansas) to give the Rafters a lead before Madison even came to the plate.
The Mallards, however, would score the next five runs. All off of Kyle Wormington (JR, Valparaiso Univ.), the Mallards tallied five runs, including Tyler Marincov's division-leading 11th home run, in the righthander's six innings of work. On three Rafters errors, two of the runs were unearned. He didn't issue a walk but hit four batters, while striking out a pair.
After the first, Matt LaMothe was nearly unhittable. Madison's starter walked in his eight innings of work and didn't allow a hit from the third to the sixth innings. In the seventh, Brandon Hohl (JR, Univ. of Illinois) lined a ball over the fence in left to make it 5-2, the first hit for the Rafters since the second inning. They would find two more hits, but no Rafters baserunner would get past second base the rest of the night. LaMothe fired eight strong on his way to his fifth win. He struck out six, allowing only four hits for the two Rafters runs.
Cam Seidl (JR, UW-Stevens Point) threw two scoreless innings in relief, but it was for naught. The Rafters could not come back in the season-series finale. Wisconsin Rapids lost the rubbermatch of the weekend series but still won the season-series against Madison 6-4.
Bo Henning (w/ WR, 0-3, 5.75 ERA) starts Sunday evening in Mequon where the Rafters will take on the Lakeshore Chinooks (10-10, 27-28 overall). First pitch Sunday from Kapco Park is scheduled for 5:05 pm.
