Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The first half of the Northwoods League season has ended and the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (12-23) are prepared to make a run in the second half. The Rafters started playing better baseball towards the end of the first half as they had won three out of their last four games and the team seems to be finally gelling together.

The Rafters will look to carry over their late first half offensive surge into the second half, and the leaders of that surge are Zack Domingues (Long Beach State) and Clark Eagan (Arkansas). Domingues batted .350 in the 21 games he played in the first half and was second in the league in on base percentage at .470. Domingues has also done a great job defensively at shortstop as he has made a handful of incredible plays and is as sure handed as they come.

Clark Eagan fought the injury bug early in his Rafters tenure, but when he played he made an instant impact. In his 10 games played Eagan batted .415 with six doubles and he drove in more runs than he had games played with 11 runs batted in. Eagan looks to solidify the middle of the lineup for the Rafters in the second half along with help from teammates Woody Woodward (UC Santa Barbara), Ryan Sluder (Oklahoma State), and Keelin Rasch (Louisiana Monroe).

The Rafters pitching staff will also look to keep building off of strong starts made at the end of the first half and are primed to become a force to be reckoned with in the Northwoods League. With Jon Malmin (Texas), Jason Freeman (Texas A&M), Zach Jackson (Arkansas), Domenic Mazza (UC Santa Barbara), and Nick Blackburn (Illinois) the Rafters look to have one of the strongest starting rotations in the entire Northwoods League.

The first Rafters home game of the second half is July 3rd at 7:05pm here at Witter Field against the Wisconsin Woodchucks with a fireworks display presented by Marshfield Clinic to follow. This will start an eight game home stand for the Rafters which include some great promotions. One of the biggest events of the summer will be on Saturday July 5th when Duck Dynasty's own John Godwin is here for Outdoorsman Night presented by Element Mobile.
