Kitchener Rangers News Release
Kitchener Rangers forward Radek Faksa was selected by the Dallas Stars 13th overall in the first round of the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft on Friday.
The Rangers' first-round selection in the 2011 CHL Import Draft, Faksa appeared in 62 regular season games for Kitchener this season and totaled 29 goals and 37 assists, more than any other rookie in the Ontario Hockey League. A three-time OHL Rookie of the Month, the Czech-born forward also attended the 2012 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects game in Kelowna, B.C., where he finished first in the Show-Down Breakaway Contest during the Skills Competition.
"As an organization, we are very proud of Radek. His coaches and teammates know how hard he worked this season to reach his goal of being drafted into the National Hockey League and tonight his efforts have paid off," said Rangers Head Coach and General Manager Steve Spott. "The Stars are receiving a great player in Faksa, and will benefit from his talents for years to come."
In addition to an outstanding rookie season in Kitchener, the 18-year old was also the only 1994-born player to be named to the Czech Republic's roster for the 2012 IIHF World Hockey Championships in Alberta, where he recorded a pair of goals and helped his country to a fifth-place finish.
Faksa becomes the fourth Ranger in three years to be drafted in the first round, following Jeff Skinner (seventh overall, 2010 - Carolina Hurricanes), Gabriel Landeskog (second overall, 2011 - Colorado Avalanche) and Ryan Murphy (12th overall - Carolina Hurricanes).
