Scott Laughton Drafted 20th Overall

Oshawa, Ontario - Oshawa Generals center Scott Laughton has been selected 20th overall in the 1st round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.
"We are very pleased for Scott and proud of him for what he has accomplished, both today at the draft and in his career so far," commented Oshawa Generals General Manager Jeff Twohey. "He is a talented player who works hard for everything he achieves. He will be a significant element in the Generals leadership core and future success."
Laughton, a native of Oakville, Ontario was selected by the Generals 3rd overall in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. He had an immediate impact on the team, totalling 12 goals and 23 points in rookie season. Laughton raised his game in his draft year, putting together a solid sophomore season with 21 goals and 53 points in 64 games. He also contributed significantly during the Generals post season, totalling 2 goals and 5 points in 6 games.
Prior to joining the Generals, Laughton played with the Toronto Marlboros where he scored 55 goals and 95 points in 72 games.
"Scott is a good combination of skill and grit, he competes hard at both ends of the ice and there are few players that work as hard as Scott, both offensively and defensively,"said Twohey.
Laughton recently impressed scouts at the IIHF World Under-18 Championship where he scored 2 goals and 7 points in 7 games. He also represented Canada at the 2011 Under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, where he scored the game-winning goal in the gold-medal game, and with Team Ontario at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
