Richmond, VA - Pitcher Chuck James heads a list of 2005 Richmond Braves who earned recognition from Baseball America magazine. James was named to Baseball America's Minor League All Star Team.
James, who advanced from Class-A to Atlanta in 2005, held Triple-A hitters to a .176 batting average in six starts with Richmond. He was third in the minors in ERA and fourth in strikeouts while pitching for Richmond, Mississippi, and Myrtle Beach. James was one of 14 R-Braves called up to Atlanta this season. He made his major league debut in September.
The 2005 R-Braves featured four of Baseball America's top 20 International League prospects, the most of any IL club. 3B Andy Marte was ranked the league's fifth best prospect, RHP Kyle Davies seventh, RHP Anthony Lerew 14th, and OF Kelly Johnson was ranked the 15th best prospect in the International League. All four earned call-ups to Atlanta. Overall 19 Atlanta prospects cracked the top-20 prospect rankings in each league. Only the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim had more ranked prospects with 20.
