21 former Clippers participating in MLB playoffs

There are 21 former Columbus Clippers on the rosters for the playoffs this week. The Yankees naturally have the most with 13 with pitchers Al Lieter, Mike Mussina, Scott Proctor, Mariano Rivera (right), Aaron Small, Chien-Ming Wang, catcher Jorge Posada, infielders Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi, outfielders Bubba Crosby, Bernie Williams and DH Ruben Sierra.

The White Sox have former Clippers pitchers Jose Contreras, Orlando Hernandez and catcher Chris Widger. The Astros have pitchers Andy Pettite and Russ Springer and catcher Brad Asmus. The Angels have outfielder Juan Rivera and the Cardinals have John Rodriguez (left). J-Rod is writing a daily playoff journal for the Cardinals' website. (cardinals.com).

Former Clippers Charles Gipson (Houston-OF) and Curtis Pride (Los Angeles-OF) played this season but are not currently on the 25 man playoff rosters. Al Reyes (Cardinal-P) was 4-2 with a 2.15 ERA but is out of the playoffs with an elbow injury.

If the Braves play the Red Sox in the World Series, it will be the first time in history that a former Columbus player has not played for a team in the series.
