D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (June 16, 2004) - D.C. United announced today that F/M Eliseo Quintanilla underwent surgery on his right leg to re-set a broken fibula. During the procedure, performed this morning at Arlington Hospital by Dr. Chris Annunziata of Commonwealth Orthopaedics, doctors completed a bone graft and blood platelet treatment to further stimulate healing in the affected area. The 21 year-old Salvadoran, who was fifth on the team in scoring last year, originally injured his fibula during a possession drill in preseason workouts. Quintanilla will likely be out of the line-up for an additional three months as a result of the surgery.
"We are pleased that the surgery was a success and look forward to Eliseo's return to the field," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper.
Quintanilla, who joined D.C. United in July 2002, tallied nine points in his sophomore campaign for the Black-and-Red. He earned Player of the Week honors for his performance against the New England Revolution on July 27, 2003, where he picked up two goals and an assist after coming on as a 70th minute substitute. Before joining United, Quintanilla starred for C.D. Aguila of El Salvador, where he registered six goals in the 2001 Apertura tournament.
