Quebec Wins Eighth in a Row at New Haven County's Expense

New Haven County Cutters News Release
The Quebec Les Capitales continued their torrid start to the Can-Am League season, beating the New Haven County Cutters 12-8 at Yale Field on Thursday night. For a while, it looked like the Cutters were going to pick up their first win of the season but were ultimately done in by timely Quebec hitting mixed in with costly errors.
Ahead 4-2 going into the top of the seventh, the Cutters were unable to stop the barrage of Les Capitales hits. The Canadian based team scored 10 runs over the final three innings, rendering a ninth inning rally from the Cutters obsolete.
First baseman Bill Peavey had his 10th RBI of the season in a 1 for 3 effort at the plate and left fielder Orlando Encarnacion showed what he can do with the bat going 2 for 3, scoring a run and batting in two more.
There were a number of Quebec players who did damage in the game with center fielder Geoffrey Tomlinson going above and beyond the call of duty, going 2 for 5 and accounting for half of Les Capitales runs (1 run scored, 5 RBIs). The league leader in home runs and RBIs, Eddie Lantigua, went 1 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI but did not hurt the Cutters like he did in the teams' previous series.
Friday's pitching match-up between Tim Keinath of the Cutters and Quebec's Julien Tucker will be only one of the attractions taking place at Yale Field. It is Hockey Night at the stadium, with current and former hockey players Brian Leetch, Mike Richter, Ted Donato, Ulf Samuelsson, Kevin Stevens and Kevin Dineen all in attendance and signing autographs.
