New Haven County Cutters News Release
The New Haven County Cutters added some power to their lineup on Thursday when they acquired first baseman/outfielder Mike O'Keefe from Somerset of the Atlantic League. O'Keefe, who was expected to be in the lineup in Thursday's opening game of a four-game series against the Quebec Les Capitales, brings considerable AA and AAA-level experience to the Cutters as part of his impressive professional resume.
A New Haven native now residing in Hamden, O'Keefe was originally selected by the Anaheim Angels in the 12th round of the 1999 draft after playing college baseball at Providence College.
Prior to this season, the 5-10, 200-pound lefty averaged 14 home runs and 70 runs batted in while batting .274 over the course of his six-year professional career. He had career highs in batting average (.330) and RBIs (91) playing for Rancho Cucamonga 2001 and he belted 21 home runs the following year for Arkansas.
This season he spent time with Richmond, the Atlanta Braves' AAA team and hit a walk-off home run against Norfolk. He has been a Red Sox farmhand, playing last season for the Portland Sea Dogs, the AA team of the Boston club.
Tickets for Cutters home games can be purchased online at www.CuttersBaseball.com, by calling 203-777-5636 or by visiting the Yale Field box office.
