Little Falls, NJ â A bottom of the eighth inning rally was too much for the New Jersey Jackals to handle, as they dropped the first game of a three game set to the Quebec Les Capitales by a scored of 7-6.
An Eddie Lantigua two out, two run homerun, quickly put the Jackals in the hole 2-0, in the bottom of the first.

The Jackals came to life in the top of the fourth inning, while sending 10 batters to the plate. After recording the first two outs consecutively, Quebec starter Jess Turner could not close the door on the inning. With the bases loaded, Scott Goodman singled scoring one. Jared Boyd then singled, adding one more to their total, while putting his team up by two.
Quebec would rally back with their third long ball of the game. Juan Melo hit a two run blast, that tied the game up at five.
New Jersey would then rally back in the top of the eighth inning. After a leadoff walk issued to Wady Almonte, Goodman doubled. The throw to third base got away, allowing Almonte to score. The run put New Jersey back in the lead, 6-5.
But in the eighth, Les Capitales would put together a rally of their own. With runners at first and second, an error by New Jersey third baseman Boyd allowing the tying run to cross the plate. Again with the bases loaded, Juan Melo grounded out, allowing Goef Tomlinson to score the eventual winning run.

The game scheduled between the New Jersey Jackals and the Elmira Pioneers on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, was suspended due to rain, entering the bottom of the third inning. New Jersey held a 3-0 lead over Elmira, partially due to a two-run homerun by Jay LaFlair. Because of the rain, the Elmira grounds crew worked till after the scheduled start time to get the field playable. The game did not get underway till after 9:00 p.m. The game will be continued on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at 5:00 p.m., at Yogi Berra Stadium.
