Brockton Rox News Release

Quebec City, Quebec (June 19, 2007) - Quebec 2B Boomer Berry went 4-4 with a two-run double and RHP Michel Simard pitched a complete-game six hitter as the Brockton Rox fell to the Quebec Capitales 4-1 at Le Stade Municipal in the opener of a three-game series. The Rox have lost five of their last six and six of their last eight games to fall below .500 for the first time in 2007. 1B Francisco Lebron had the only RBI of the night for Brockton and RF Tony Gonzalez had a two hit game in his professional debut. RHP Mike McTamney pitched well for the Rox in a no-decision, allowing just a single run in six innings while striking out seven. The Rox are 1-3 vs. the Capitales in 2007.

Both teams stranded runners early but the Rox struck for a run in the fourth inning. LF Jeremy Coronado reached on an error, stole second, and advanced to third base on a catcher's throwing error. With former Capital Lebron at the plate, the Rox scored the game's first run on a deep sacrifice fly to center field. Brockton led 1-0 heading into the fifth inning, when the Capitales countered on a LF Mike Galloway sacrifice fly against McTamney, tying the game at one.

In the seventh frame, LHP Donavon Hendricks replaced McTamney. He walked the leadoff batter and an error put runners at first and second. After a sacrifice bunt and an intentional free pass to 3B Eddie Lantigua, Galloway delivered his second sac fly of the game. RF Tony Gonzalez's throw was just behind the runner Goefrey Tomlinson as the Capitales took a 2-1 lead. An inning later, Berry smoked a two-run double over CF Joe Hough's head, plating two insurance runs for the Capitales. Simard finished out the game in the ninth inning, his second complete-game victory of the year.

Wednesday, the Rox send RHP Gary Galvez (1-2, 4.76 ERA) to the hill against Quebec RHP Jorge Perez (2-2, 6.21 ERA) in the series' second game at 7:05 PM. Coverage begins on WXBR 1460 AM and www.brocktonrox.com with the Brockton Rox Pregame Show at 6:45 PM.
