Quantrill's Strong Start and Offense's Strong Second Inning Propels Ducks to 5-3 Win over Rumble Ponies

Akron scored five in the second to back Cal Quantrill's five scoreless innings as the Akron RubberDucks end the first half with a 5-3 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Akron's offense got rolling in the second. Johnathan Rodriguez opened the inning with a single before advancing to second on a passed ball. A batter later, Aaron Bracho lined a single into left to score Rodriguez and put Akron ahead 1-0.

Mound Presence

Quantrill looked sharp in his first rehab start since being placed on the injured list on May 31. The Guardians right-hander set down the side in order in the first on his way to five scoreless innings allowing three hits while striking out three. Tommy Mace followed tossing four innings allowing three runs while striking out two to pick up the save.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks were not done in the second. After Bracho's single, Connor Kokx worked a walk and Joe Naranjo singled to load the bases with one out. Michael Berglund smoked a hard line drive into deep right field that bounced over the wall into Homerville for a two-run automatic double. Jose Tena followed with a two-run single into center to put the RubberDucks ahead 5-0.

Notebook

Quantrill threw 58 pitches (38 strikes) and topped out at 95 mph in his start...Bracho extended his hitting streak to five games, which ties his longest of the season...Game Time: 2:00...Attendance: 3,973.
