Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - A four-run seventh inning highlighted another wild Quakes' come-back at The Epicenter, as Rancho Cucamonga won their third straight game with a 9-8 victory over the Stockton Ports on Tuesday night.
Chris Jacobs' RBI single capped the four-run frame, as he drove in Chris O'Brien with what turned out to be the game-winning run.
The Quakes had a tough time putting the Ports away over their final two at-bats though, as Rancho committed a pair of two-out errors in the eighth, but worked around them to strand both men. The ninth inning was even more dangerous, as Bret Montgomery gave up back-to-back two-out baserunners, before being removed in favor of Yimi Garcia. Garcia walked A.J. Kirby-Jones to load the bases, but then struck out Michael Gilmartin to end the game and record his first save of the year.
Tuesday's game was back-and-forth, with Stockton blowing a pair of big leads.
After Joc Pederson's first of two solo homers put the Quakes up 1-0 in the first, Stockton answered with four in the second, highlighted by a Yordy Cabrera three-run homer off Angel Sanchez.
The Quakes rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the second, with Gabe Suarez's two-run double tying the game at 4-4 against Stockton starter Nate Long.
The Ports turned right around and scored four more in the top of the third, chasing Sanchez and getting a run off of reliever Jordan Roberts, to take a commanding 8-4 advantage.
Pedro Baez homered to start the Rancho rally in the fourth, as his fourth round-tripper of the year made it 8-5.
Pederson homered with two outs in the seventh off of Pedro Vidal, his second of the game and 15th of the year, pulling the Quakes to within two and breathing some life into the offense.
Yasiel Puig, making his Quakes' debut, singled for his only hit in four at-bats, forcing the Ports to bring in lefty Jeff Urlaub. Austin Gallagher then walked to put the tying runs on board for Chris O'Brien, who ripped a two-run triple to center field, tying the game at 8-8. Jacobs followed with a single off of Urlaub (1-2), driving in O'Brien to make it 9-8.
Rehabbing Dodgers' lefty Ted Lilly started Tuesday's game, striking out a pair and retiring all three men he faced over one scheduled inning of work.
Thanks to Lancaster's loss at home to High Desert on Tuesday night, the Quakes (22-28, 59-61) are now just two games out of the Wild Card with 20 to go in the regular season. On Wednesday, the Quakes will send Jarret Martin (0-0) to the mound in his Rancho debut. Stockton will counter with Josh Bowman (4-10). Wednesday is our final Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark, as four-legged friends are encouraged to attend the game. Game time is 7:05pm and gates open at 6:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
