LANCASTER, CA - Telvin Nash hit a go-ahead three-run home run but the bullpen and defense struggled as the JetHawks dropped the series opener to the High Desert Mavericks, 8-4, on Tuesday night at The Hangar.

Down 3-0 in the fourth, Lancaster put up four runs to take the lead. Erik Castro singled and Domingo Santana walked to start the inning against Mavericks starter Taylor Stanton. Drew Muren followed with a single to right to score Castro and set the stage for Nash's big fly. Nash hit his 24th home run deep to left field to put the JetHawks up, 4-3.

High Desert tied the game in the top of the sixth against JetHawks starter Blair Walters. With two outs, Gabriel Noriega doubled to deep left field to score John Hicks who had led off the inning with a single. Walters was removed from the game after the double. He made over 100 pitches and allowed four runs - two earned - with seven strikeouts and two walks in 5 2/3 innings pitched.

Patrick Urckfitz came in for Walters and tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just one hit and struck out three to take the JetHawks to the ninth inning all tied, 4-4.

The Mavericks got to new reliever Andrew Robinson (4-3) in the ninth. The right-hander began the inning by issuing a walk to James Jones. After a wild pitch moved Jones to second, Jack Marder reached on an infield single. Leon Landry followed with a scoring fly ball to centerfield to give High Desert the lead. After a Steven Proscia single, Dennis Raben reached on a Jiovanni Mier error allowing another run to score. Mickey Wiswall capped the inning with a two-run double to put the Mavericks up by four.

The JetHawks tied a season-high with three errors in the game. Three of High Desert's eight runs scored were unearned.
