Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Coming off a series sweep in Visalia, the Inland Empire 66ers (56-64, 25-25) could not take advantage of a big offensive haul and dropped game one of their series with the Lake Elsinore Storm (62-58, 26-24) 11-9. 66ers third baseman Kaleb Cowart provided the bulk of the offensive firepower, going 4-for-5 with two RBI including an RBI triple. Cowart now has 35 RBIs on the year.

The 66ers offense went off to a fast start as they took an early 2-0 off of Storm starter Matt Branham as C.J. Cron contributed an RBI single, but the lead did not last as mistakes on defense lead to runs for Lake Elsinore. Cron though finished the night going 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs to push his professional baseball leading RBI total to 112. 66ers left fielder Ryan Jones went 2-for-5 with an RBI double. 66ers shortstop Rolando Gomez also had two RBIs to help Inland Empire attempt to mount a comeback.

66ers starter Danny Reynolds was roughed up as he only lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up seven earned runs and only striking out two and was charged with the loss to fall to 0-2. Branham was the winning pitcher to improve to 6-2. 66ers reliever Manuel Flores pitched a scoreless 9th inning to settle down a battered Inland Empire pitching staff. Storm closer Kevin Quakenbush pitched the 9th to earn his league leading 25th save.

The 66ers continue their series with the Lake Elsinore Storm on the road at 7:05 pm tomorrow. The game can be heard on the home of 66ers baseball KCAA 1050 AM beginning with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pre-Game show at 6:55.
