Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
San Jose, CA - The Quakes blew a five-run lead on Saturday, but Leon Landry's ninth-inning RBI double saved Rancho Cucamonga, as they held on for an exciting 11-10 victory over the San Jose Giants.
Landry, who gave the Quakes a 7-6 lead in the sixth, when the Quakes exploded for seven total runs and took a 10-5 lead, put Rancho ahead to stay, ripping a ball off the top of the right-field fence against Giants' reliever Chris Wilson (3-2).
After three different Quakes' endured their struggles on the hill over the first eight innings, Eric Eadington worked a quiet ninth inning, striking out two of the three men he faced to earn his 13th save of the year.
The Quakes and Giants combined for a wild 55-minute sixth innings, with the team's combining for 12 total runs in the frame. Rancho trailed 5-3 coming into the frame, but after sending 13 men to the plate, headed to the bottom of the inning with a 10-5 advantage.
It didn't last though, as starter Brandon Martinez walked the first two men he faced after the long lay-off in the top of the inning. He was removed in favor of Scott McGough, who retired just one of the four hitters he faced. Jordan Roberts came into the game with the Quakes up 10-8, but allowed a couple of inherited runners to score, as the Giants evened the game at 10-10.
Roberts (5-0) would settle down, tossing 2 2/3 innings of relief to net the win.
Bobby Coyle starred at the plate for Rancho, reaching base five different times, finishing 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
The Quakes (7-10, 44-43) send Andres Santiago (4-3) to the mound on Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm, as they take on San Jose's Seth Rosin.
On Wednesday, July 11th, the Quakes return to The Epicenter for a three-game home stand against Inland Empire.
