Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - Tony Delmonico's solo home run in the top half of the tenth inning put the Quakes ahead to stay, as Rancho Cucamonga held on for a 4-3 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm.
Delmonico's tenth of the year helped give the Quakes their first series-win in Lake Elsinore this season, as they took three of four to move back into a first-place tie with the Storm atop the South Division Second Half Standings.
Tied at 3-3 with one out in the tenth, Delmonico crushed a Jason Ray (4-3) offering off the scoreboard in left field, giving the Quakes the lead at 4-3. Logan Bawcom made it look relatively easy in the bottom of the tenth, as he worked a perfect frame for his fifth save since joining the Quakes.
Saturday's series-finale had a playoff atmosphere, with both teams being unable to hold the lead.
The Storm got a run in the first and another in the second off Quakes' starter Andres Santiago, taking an early 2-0 advantage.
A Rafael Ynoa groundout put the Quakes on the board in the third, as he drove in Ramon Jean to make it 2-1.
J.T. Wise led off the fifth with a double, then scored on Jean's RBI single, evening the game at 2-2.
The Quakes took their first lead in the seventh, but had an opportunity to break the game open. Ynoa singled home Kevin Thompson for a 3-2 lead, but the Quakes couldn't score with the bases loaded and no outs.
Jeudy Valdez capitalized in the eighth, as with one out, he took a Jordan Roberts pitch over the wall in left field for his tenth homer of the year, tying the game again, this time at 3-3.
Roberts (6-4) would work a total of three innings, surrendering just that one hit.
Santiago left after six innings, carrying a 3-2 lead, but got a no-decision. The righthander allowed just two runs on six hits, with seven strikeouts.
The Quakes, now 3-1 on their seven-game road trip, head to Visalia for a 6:00pm matchup with the Rawhide on Sunday evening. Aaron Miller (2-1) will come off the disabled list for the Quakes on Sunday and get the start. Visalia will go with Diogenes Rosario (5-4) in the first game of the three-game series.
