Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(SAN JOSE, CA) - San Jose pitcher Chris Heston pitched into the ninth inning and the Giants held off a late Lancaste rally as they edged the JetHawks 4-3 Saturday night at Municipal Stadium. The JetHawks earn a series split against the team with the best home record in the California League.

It was a game that featured two of the top sinker specialists in the league in Lancaster's Jake Buchanan and San Jose's Chris Heston. Both pitchers were on their game early. San Jose used a bouncing single, a wild pitch, and a pair of ground outs to eek out a run in the opening inning, then did not score again until the fifth. After Buchanan struck out the first two batters of the inning, he allowed a walk and three straight hits for three runs to put the Giants up 4-0.

Lancaster did not score against Heston until the seventh inning. With two outs J.C. Thompson hit an opposite field double to right and came in to score on a RBI single from Jonathan Meyer. The JetHawks rallied again in the ninth inning. Miguel Arrendell and Austin Wates each walked to provide the threat. A fielding error and a ground out brought them both in and put the tying runner at first base, however, the JetHawks were unable to get the final big hit to complete the comeback.

The game took an even two hours, making it the fastest Lancaster game this season.

The JetHawks will move on to Bakersfield Sunday night to play at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Andrew Robinson (4-8) will start for Lancaster against Mark Serrano (3-6) of the Blaze. The game starts at 7:45 and will be broadcast live on radio by 87.7 Kickin' Country and online at CSN at JetHawks.com (click the listen live link). The Pre-Game Show starts at 7:30.

The newest JetHawk, top prospect Jonathan Singleton, is expected to be in uniform for the team Sunday night. Singleton was acquired by the Astros in a trade that sent All Star Hunter Pence to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The JetHawks return home Wednesday, August 3 to open a four-game homestand against the Inland Empire 66ers. For tickets and other information, call (661) 726-5400 or visit JetHawks.com.
