Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes completed a three-game sweep of the San Jose Giants on Thursday night at The Epicenter, winning the series-finale by a score of 5-3.

Kevin Ramos had two hits including the game-winning hit, singling home Angel Castillo with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Quakes rallied for third straight win, keeping their one-game lead in the South Division Second Half Standings.

Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, the Quakes scored three times, taking the lead for good over San Jose starter Justin Fitzgerald (8-3). Gabe Jacobo walked to open the inning, then moved to second on a wild pitch by Fitzgerald. Luis Jimenez followed with a single, moving Jacobo to third base. Castillo then reached with an infield hit, scoring Jacobo to even the game at 3-3. With runners at first and second, Jon Townsend's would-be sacrifice bunt attempt failed, as Jimenez was throw out at third base. Ramos followed Townsend with his second run-scoring hit of the game, putting the Quakes in front at 4-3. Ramos later scored on a throwing error, giving the Quakes a two-run advantage at 5-3.

Thanks to the three-run sixth, Quakes' starter Orangel Arenas (5-1) departed after six innings with the lead, allowing three runs on five hits.

Nick Pugliese replaced Arenas in the seventh and was dominant. Pugliese struck out two of three in a perfect seventh, then fanned another batter in a 1-2-3 eighth. Jose Perez followed Pugliese out of the bullpen, working around a one-out double to retire the side and earn his first save of the year.

The Giants took a 1-0 lead just three batters into the game, as Wendell Fairley singled and scored on Jose Flores' RBI double.

The Quakes answered in the second, as Ramos singled home Castillo to tie the game at 1-1. Rian Kiniry followed with an RBI groundout, plating Jon Townsend to make it 2-1.

Drew Biery's two-run blast off Arenas, his 13th of the year, gave the Giants a 3-2 lead in the fourth.

The Quakes (19-14, 59-45) maintain their one-game lead over the second-place High Desert Mavericks, who host the Quakes on Friday in the opening game of a three-game series. Ryan Chaffee (4-4) will take on Jon Hesketh (0-3) at 7:05pm.
