Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After Quakes starter Tim Kiely set the Mavericks down in order in the top of the first, Matt Sweeney gave Rancho a 1-0 lead with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the inning.

Kiely retired the first nine Mavericks hitters in order before allowing a leadoff single to Jamie McOwen in the 4th. That single led to three runs for High Desert as Joe Dunigan singled to right to score McOwen and, with two outs Alex Liddi collected a two-run double to left-center to take a 3-1 lead.

The Quakes had the leadoff batter on base with singles from the 2nd inning through the 6th and couldn't take advantage of the opportunities, stranding seven on base through the first six innings.

The Mavericks got a solo home run from Carlos Peguero in the 7th to grab a 4-1 lead. Kiely pitched seven strong innings allowing four runs on five hits while striking out five.

The Quakes finally came up clutch in the 8th inning as Julio Perez singled and Efren Navarro doubled off the right field wall to score Perez to make the score 4-2. After a balk sent Navarro to third, Hector Estrella grounded out to short to score Navarro to pull the Quakes within one, 4-3. Rancho had the tying run at second with two outs before Brian Walker grounded out to end the inning.

High Desert took advantage of some poor defense in left field in the 9th inning as Travis Scott homered to give the Mavericks a 5-3 lead. After a fly ball by Alex Liddi should have been caught in left, Peguero followed with his second home run of the night to put the game out of reach 7-3.

Rancho will send left hander Robert Fish to the mound against right hander Nathan Adcock of the Mavericks for the series finale. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.

The Quakes are the California League Affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. For more information about purchasing tickets, please call the Quakes Ticket Office at (909) 481-5252 or order online at www.rcquakes.com.
