Inland Empire 66ers News Release

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - After being held to one hit on Tuesday, the 66ers came out firing on all cylinders on Wednesday night. The 66ers (14-19), led by Pedro Baez's 4-for-4 night at the plate, came away with a 6-5 victory over the Stockton Ports (10-23).

The Ports made it interesting in the ninth inning, scoring four runs off Jacobo Meque to cut the 66ers lead to one run. The late rally wasn't enough as Justin Orenduff came in from the pen to end the threat and earn his third save.

The 66ers took an early lead in the second when Pedro Baez hit a two-run shot off Ports starter Craig Italiano (3-3), his fifth home run of this season.

The 66ers tacked on two more runs in the fourth. After Steven Caseres and Baez reached base to begin the inning, both came around to score on singles by Justin Fuller and Christian Lara making it a 4-0 Sixers lead.

Scott VanSlyke added a homer of his own in the fifth, sending the pitch from Italiano to Home Run Hill in left field.

Josh Wall made his first start since coming off the DL for Inland Empire, throwing three scoreless innings in which he gave up one hit and two walks while striking out two.

Kendy Batista (1-2) picked up the win, recording seven strikeouts in his 4 2/3 innings of work allowing just one run on four hits and two walks.

Baez equaled a career high with four hits after going 4-for-5 with Ogden a year ago.

In a losing effort, Italiano (3-3) gave up five runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out eight.

The 66ers will wake up early Thursday for an 11 a.m. game at Arrowhead Credit Union Park. Join us for Thirsty Thursday at the game, where you can get $1 beer and $1 soda until the end of the fifth inning.
