Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After two straight losses to the 66ers and stranding 14 on base on Tuesday, the Quakes jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning on Wednesday. Matt Sweeney blasted a three run home run, Efren Navarro tripled and scored on a Jeremy Moore RBI sacrifice fly and PJ Phillips tripled home a run to highlight the Quakes five-run frame.

The 66ers came back with a run of their own against Quakes starter Mike Kenney with a solo home run from Andres Perez, his third of the series, to make the score 5-1.

Rancho got another run in the 2nd as Andrew Romine walked to lead off the inning and a bunt single by Carlos Colmenares before Abel Nieves singled to center to score Romine to make it a 6-1 game.

Mike Kenney ran into big trouble in the 4th walking two and allowing a single to load the bases with no outs. He then struck out Christian Lara, got Justin Fuller to ground out to the pitcher and struck out Elian Herrera to get out of the jam, not allowing a run.

Kenney luck ran out however in the 5th as he allowed back to back singles before allowing a three run homer to Steven Caseres to bring the score to 6-4. After the home run, Kenney was taken out after allowing four runs on six hits while walking six. Steven Geltz came in and retired the next two batters to end the inning.

The Quakes got a run back in the bottom of the fifth when Efren Navarro walked and Jeremy Moore singled before Clay Fuller popped up for the first out of the inning. PJ Phillips came up and grounded a ball to first where the 66ers got an out at second, but the return throw to first was wild and Navarro came around to score to make the score 7-4.

Geltz remained in the game for the Quakes until allowing a two-out, two-run home run to Steven Caseres to bring the score to 7-6. Geltz allowed a single before being lifted from the game for Taylor Wilding, who got Alex Garabedian out to end the inning.

Michael Kohn then came in for the 9th and retired the 66ers in order to pick up his second save of the year and snap the Quakes six-game losing streak.

The Quakes will start a four game series with Stockton Thursday. Right hander Ryan Brasier will be on the mound for the Quakes against left hander Daniel Hagwood for the Ports. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Quakes win, Quakes win.
