Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - With local radio stations eliminating their high school and college radio coverage, the Lancaster JetHawks have created a new internet radio station that will bring almost two hundred games and thousands of hours of local sports talk coverage to the Antelope Valley each year. Called the "Community Sports Network @ JetHawks.com", the station will stream live on the internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with all local sports coverage. The station will offer live play-by-play of Lancaster JetHawks baseball, Antelope Valley College football and basketball, and a high school football and basketball game of the week, all accessible through www.JetHawks.com.
This free service for Antelope Valley sports fans will launch Saturday, September 5 at 6 PM with an hour-long pre-game show leading up to dual coverage of the Lancaster JetHawks game against the Inland Empire 66ers and the Antelope Valley College Marauders football opener on the road against College of the Canyons.
"Having been in the broadcasting business for more than 20 years before joining the JetHawks, I'm very excited to help bring local sports radio back to the Antelope Valley," says JetHawks General Manager Larry Thornhill. "AV sports fans are very supportive of their teams and the JetHawks are glad to provide a place for our local high school and college athletes to get the coverage they deserve."
Each AVC football game will be broadcast live throughout the season. "CSN @ JetHawks.com" will present the High School Game of the Week beginning at the start of Golden League play October 2. While the High School Game of the Week schedule remains tentative, the planned debut will take place on the 2nd when Palmdale High hosts Lancaster High.
Besides the live play-by-play coverage, "CSN @ JetHawks.com" will offer the only local sports talk radio in the Antelope Valley. Headlined by the JetHawks Clubhouse Show, Antelope Valley College is creating its own weekly talk shows featuring coaches, players, and administrators. AVC athletics press conferences will also be broadcast. Local high schools have been offered the opportunity to create their own talk shows to feature their student athletes and be hosted by student journalists. Several schools are already in the process of developing their own programming.
To tune in listeners simply have to go to JetHawks.com and click on the "CSN @ JetHawks.com" button once the station launches September 5. The live broadcast will load immediately, along with a weekly programming schedule so fans can find out when their favorite school's games and shows will be broadcast.
The "CSN @ JetHawks.com" broadcast team includes a range of local sports radio veterans. The Program Director and voice of "CSN @ JetHawks.com" high school play-by-play coverage will be Antelope Valley native and Lancaster High School graduate Will Thornhill. Serving as the Executive Producer is JetHawks Director of Broadcasting Jeff Lasky. William Calvert will return for his third season as the voice of Marauders athletics. Color commentators and talk show hosts will include former athletes and coaches from local schools as well as current students at area high schools.
