Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Robert Fish set the tone early in Sunday's game retiring the first seven batters he faced.
The Quakes gave Fish a little cushion by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. Anthony Norman walked with the bases loaded and Clay Fuller was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to force both runs home and give Rancho a 2-0 lead. The Mavericks got on the scoreboard in the 3rd on Jose Yepez' first home run of the season, a solo shot, to cut the Quakes lead to 2-1.
High Desert would tie the game in the 4th as Fish walked the leadoff batter and he eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Kuo Hui Lo to even the score 2-2.
Rancho regained the lead in the 5th as Fuller led off the inning with a walk, stole second and went to third on a ground out. After Matt Sweeney walked, Hector Estrella singled to center to score Fuller to take a 3-2 lead.
Robert Fish had his best outing of the season going seven innings allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out four.
The Quakes added three runs in the bottom of the 7th. PJ Phillips snapped a 0-19 stretch by singling to center and after he stole second, Fuller drew a walk. Andrew Romine laid down a sacrifice bunt, but reached on a catching error at first by Ron Garth which led to Phillips scoring on the play from second base. Matt Sweeney then flew out to center and Hector Estrella followed with an RBI double down the left field line to score Fuller and put runners on second and third. Efren Navarro then had an RBI ground out to make the score 6-2.
Rancho will take on High Desert in the series finale Monday. The Quakes will have Major Leaguer Ervin Santana on the mound for a rehab assignment against right hander Alfredo Venegas of High Desert. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
