SAN BERNARDINO, CA - Eduardo Perez lined a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th off reliever Allen Harrington, driving home Trayvon Robinson from second to win it for the Sixers, 3-2, in 10 innings to earn a series split with the Lake Elsinore Storm on Monday.
Inland Empire starter Tim Sexton pitched a dazzling 8 innings, giving up just 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and a walk while striking out 4.
The 66ers (10-15) nabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After Robinson and Preston Mattingly reached safely on consecutive singles, Scott Van Slyke walked to load the bases for Pedro Baez who lined a singled of his own into left, driving in both Robinson and Mattingly.
Lance Zawadzki, who was 3-for-5 on the night, cut the lead in half in the fourth with a solo shot off Sexton, his team-leading sixth homer on the year.
Lake Elsinore (14-11) later tied the game at two in the sixth when Felix Carrasco grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and none out, bringing in Brad Chalk from third.
Justin Orenduff (2-0) received the win in relief, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings in which he allowed 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1 batter. He escaped a bases-loaded, one out situation in the ninth to preserve the tie.
Harrington (1-1) picked up the loss for the Storm, giving up the game-winning run on 2 hits and 1 walk in his 1/3 of an inning of work.
Inland Empire now packs its bags for a six-game road trip starting with the High Desert Mavericks on Tuesday with Alberto Bastardo (1-2, 3.99) getting the nod for the 66ers. The Sixers return home Monday May 11 for the Meet The Team Dinner featuring Dodgers legend Tommy Lasorda as the keynote speaker and an Italian feast. This special event will be held at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino starting at 6 p.m. Individual tickets are $35 dollars, while tables of 10 with a 66er player or coach can be reserved for $350.
