Quakes Rumble Early, Down Sixers

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes took the opening game of a four-game season-ending series against the Inland Empire 66ers 9-4 on Friday at LoanMart Field. The Quakes led 8-1 after two innings and did not look back.

The Quakes (75-62, 34-33) jumped out to a 4-0 lead against IE starter Ryan Etsell (7-5) in the first highlighted by a two-run double by Tyler Ogle and two-run single by Josmar Cordero. Rancho Cucamonga added to their lead in the second with four more runs, a rally that began with two outs and nobody on base. Etsell lasted three innings allowing eight runs (six earned) with three walks and no Ks.

Inland Empire (61-76, 26-41) chiseled into the lead in the fourth inning against Chase De Jong (4-3). Kody Eaves opened the inning with a solo homer to right field, his 11th dinger of the year. Gabriel Santana tripled in a run for the Sixers later in the frame. It was his second extra-base hit of the night as he had an RBI double in the second inning. Bo Way eventually singled in Santana to cut the Quakes lead to 8-4. De Jong went five frames with four runs allowed (three earned) on four hits with two walks and seven Ks.

The Quakes added an insurance run in the seventh inning when DH Cody Bellinger tagged an Alex Blackford change-up over the wall in right for his 30th homer of the season. The 20-year-old's homer also tallied his 100th RBI of the campaign. Blackford was strong for Inland Empire however and kept them in the game. The righty from Centennial, CO gave up just the one run in four inning notching four K's. Santana and Quinten Davis each had two hit games for the Sixers and were also each hit by a pitch. Alex Verdugo had three hits for the Quakes.
