Modesto Nuts News Release
Stockton, CA. - Kyle Freeland and Michael Benjamin Jr. helped the Modesto Nuts end their four-game skid with a 7-4 win over the Stockton Ports at Banner Island Ballpark on Friday night.
Benjamin drove in five runs for the Nuts (67-70; 34-33). He recorded a sac fly in the Nuts' three-run first inning. In the third, Benjamin smacked a three-run shot after the Ports (71-66; 33-34) intentionally walked Ryan McMahon to get to Michael. Benjamin added a RBI single in the ninth.
McMahon drove in two runs and recorded his California League-leading 41st and 42nd doubles.
Kyle Freeland (W, 3-2) tossed 6.2 innings allowing five hits and four runs. Freeland allowed two runs in the first two innings but stranded runners in scoring position in the next two frames to preserve the Nuts' lead. Starting in the third, Freeland retired twelve in a row before giving up a pair of runs in the seventh.
Matt Stalcup (L, 3-6) allowed three runs in five innings in his start for the Ports.
Matt Carasiti (S, 22/24) worked around two ninth-inning baserunners to strand the potential tying run at the plate to lock down the Nuts' victory.
