Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lancaster, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes halted a four-game losing streak and pulled back into a second-half tie atop the South Division standings with a 12-3 pasting of the Lancaster JetHawks on Saturday night.
Jake Lemmerman and Austin Gallagher both homered, while Matt Magill turned in a quality start to become the team's first eight-game winner this year.
The Quakes chased Lancaster starter Jose Cisnero after retiring only two batters in the first inning, as they took an early 5-0 lead. Angelo Songco put the Quakes on the board with a two-out double, brining home Anthony Jackson for a 1-0 lead. Lemmerman followed with a two-run bomb to left, making it 3-0. With Tony Delmonico and Austin Gallagher in scoring position, Preston Mattingly singled to right field, plating two and chasing Cisnero (4-8).
Magill got knocked around a bit, giving up a pair of homers, including an inside-the-park homer to David Flores in the bottom of the second, as the Jethawks got on the board at 5-1.
Rancho went back to work against reliever Mike Ness in the fourth, as Nick Buss chased home a run with an RBI groundout and Jackson knocked in a run with an RBI double, making it 7-1.
Magill got touched for another solo homer in the bottom of the fourth, as Adam Bailey struck for his first Cal League round-tripper, making it 7-2.
The Quakes poured it on reliever Yordanny Ramirez in the fifth, scoring five more times to take a 12-2 lead.
Gallagher's three-run blast to right field highlighted the inning, his ninth home run of the year.
Magill gave up his final run in the fifth, as the JetHawks closed the scoring with Bailey's run-scoring single, making it 12-3.
Magill (8-2) allowed a total of three runs on nine hits over six innings for the victory.
Josh Walter and Steve Smith combined to work three scoreless innings, finishing it off.
The Quakes (10-7, 48-39) send JonMichael Redding (6-4) to the mound on Sunday afternoon in the series-finale at 5:00pm, with Lancaster countering with Zach Grimmett (4-5).
