Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - David Flores went 2-for-5 and hit an RBI single that plated Jonathan Meyer and gave the JetHawks a 9-8 walk-off win over Rancho Cucamonga at Clear Channel Stadium Sunday night. The victory gave Lancaster a series win over the Quakes in the four-game set and a 5-2 record on the homestand.
Rancho Cucamonga grabbed the early lead with two runs off JetHawks starter Zach Grimmett in the top of the second. Rafael Ynoa hit a two-run double that scored Austin Gallagher and J. T. Wise and put the Quakes in front 2-0.
The JetHawks answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame off Quakes starter JonMichael Redding. Rene Garcia ripped a two-run double to right field and Jio Mier drove in a run on a bunt single later in the inning. Lancaster took advantage of a fielding error by Quakes first baseman Austin Gallagher as Miguel Arrendell scored, which gave Lancaster a 4-2 edge.
After Lancaster added runs in each of the next two frames to open up a 6-2 lead, the Quakes stormed back with three runs in the top of the fifth. Jake Lemmerman smacked a two-run home run and Rod Barajas followed with a solo blast, which brought Rancho Cucamonga within a run of the JetHawks. The Quakes evened the score at 6-6 when Wise belted a solo home run off JetHawks reliever Chris Hicks in the top of the sixth.
But the JetHawks reclaimed the lead by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth. Austin Wates laced an RBI triple into the left-center field gap and Adam Bailey followed with his second RBI single of the contest, which put Lancaster in front 8-6.
Rancho Cucamonga scored a run in the top of the seventh and tied the game at 8-8 when Anthony Jackson homered off JetHawks closer Kirk Clark in the top of the ninth. With Meyer at first base and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Quakes reliever Jordan Roberts was called for a balk, which put the winning run in scoring position. Flores ripped a change-up into right field and Meyer raced home.
Lancaster improved to 7-11 in the second half and 35-53 overall. Rancho Cucamonga fell to 10-8 in the second half and 48-40 overall. Clark (3-3) earned the win in relief and Roberts (4-3) took the loss.
