Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Ryan Chaffee turned in a quality start, while his offense took advantage of four Inland Empire errors, as the Quakes snapped their four-game skid with a 9-2 win over the 66ers, in front of over 4,200 fans on Friday night at The Epicenter.
Clay Fuller and Gabe Jacobo smashed homers, helping Rancho Cucamonga (22-19, 61-50) pull to within one game of first-place High Desert in the South Division.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the Quakes picked up a pair of two-out hits, their first of five two-out, run-scoring hits on the night. After Mike Trout opened the first by reaching on a fielding error, Jacobo tied the game at 1-1 with a two-out double to left off Inland Empire starter Bobby Blevins. Fuller followed with a run-scoring triple of the wall in left, plating Jacobo to give the Quakes the lead for good at 2-1.
Blevins was victimized again in the fourth, as Jacobo reached on a throwing error. With two outs and the bases loaded, Darwin Perez came up with a clutch single up the middle, scoring Jacobo and Dillon Baird, putting the Quakes up by three at 4-1. Trout and Alberto Rosario followed with consecutive RBI-hits, making it 6-1.
Alfredo Silverio took Chaffee deep to open the fifth, his eighth homer of the year to make it 6-2.
The Quakes got that run back in the bottom of the inning, as Fuller took Blevins (1-6) out to left, his sixth in a Quakes' uniform, putting the Quakes up 7-2.
Jacobo unleashed a monster blast in the seventh with Luis Jimenez aboard, a two-run shot off 66ers' reliever Robert Boothe to cap the scoring at 9-2. Jacobo now leads the team with 19 homers and 86 RBIs.
Michael Piazza came out of the bullpen and tossed two scoreless frames to end it.
Chaffee (5-5) allowed just two runs, scattering seven hits over seven innings.
