Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LAKE ELSINORE, CA - No team in the California League has welcomed the month of August as much as the JetHawks. They beat the Lake Elsinore Storm 10-5 Friday night, running their record for the month to a perfect 5-0. The victory is the first in nine tries for the JetHawks at the Diamond this season. Lancaster's five-game win streak, including four straight on the road, matches their longest win streak of the year. They also pick up a game in the second half race, getting to within four games of first place and the playoff spot that comes with it.

The JetHawks scored four times in the top of the first inning and never trailed. Jonathan Villar started the rally with a triple, then scored when Brandon Barnes' ground ball was booted for an error. Lancaster took advantage of the miscue. Brian Pellegrini walked and Andy Simunic sent a ball inside the third base bag for a two-run double. John Curtis followed with a RBI single and Lancaster led by four.

The Storm chipped away against struggling Lancaster starter Leandro Cespedes. They scored three times between the second and third innings to get to within one. However, a string of four straight hits and a walk led to five more Lancaster runs in the fourth inning. The big blow was a two-run homer off the bat of David Flores.

Shane Wolf excelled once more out of the JetHawks bullpen. He allowed only one run over three and 2/3 innings of relief to take over the team lead with his sixth win. Lee Cruz singled in the sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to 20 straight games. John Curtis had a string of seven straight at bats with a hit come to an end in the seventh inning. However, the JetHawks catcher matched a career-high with four hits for a second straight night.

The JetHawks will go for their first six-game win streak of the season Saturday night in Lake Elsinore. Ross Seaton (5-10) will pitch for Lancaster against the Storm's Rob Musgrave (2-2). The game begins at 7:05 and will be broadcast live online at JetHawks.com/CSN and on radio at NewsTalk 1380. The Pre-Game Show begins at 7:00.
