Quakes Rally for Third Straight "W"

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Lancaster, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rallied from an early 5-1 deficit on Saturday night, scoring the game's final eight runs, on their way to a 9-5 win over the Lancaster JetHawks at Clear Channel Stadium.

It was a tale of two pitchers for Manny Flores on Saturday night, as the Quakes' starter was torched for five straight hits in the second inning, as Lancaster scored five times to take a commanding 5-1 lead.

After Flores (1-1) got out of the second though, the JetHawks were kept off the bases, as the left-hander didn't allow a base runner over his final 4 1/3 innings, retiring 13 straight batters.

That was just what the Quakes' offense needed, as they chipped away at the deficit, scoring single runs in the third, fifth and sixth, to make it a one-run game.

Trailing 5-4 in the seventh, the Quakes tagged JetHawks' reliever Ashton Mowdy (0-1) for a pair of unearned runs, taking the lead for good at 6-5, with Roberto Lopez picking up the go-ahead RBI single.

In the ninth, the Quakes got some much-needed insurance, tallying three times to take a 9-5 lead. With the bases loaded and only one out, Lopez was hit by a pitch, forcing in Rian Kiniry to make it 7-5. Gabe Jacobo and Dillon Baird followed with consecutive run-scoring hits, making it 9-5.

Eddie McKiernan came on in the ninth, and while he allowed a lead-off single, retired the next three hitters he faced to end the game.

Tyson Auer got things started early for the Quakes, as he hit a lead-off homer to open the game, his first of the year to make it 1-0 against JetHawks' starter Shane Wolf.

Kiniry had another big night for the Quakes, as he finished with three hits, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Kiniry is now 7-for-12 against JetHawks' pitching in this series.

Andrew Taylor spun two perfect innings in relief, combining with Manny Flores to retire 19 straight JetHawks' hitters.

In taking their third straight road game, the Quakes reach the .500 mark for just the second time this year and are now tied for second place in the South Division, just one game off the pace behind Lake Elsinore.

After the seven-game road trip concludes, the Quakes will return to The Epicenter on Thursday, April 22nd, for another Buffalo Wild Wings Thirsty Thursday, as 16oz domestic beers and 20oz sodas will be just $2 each, thanks to Buffalo Wild Wings and X103.9. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter very soon. Go Quakes!
