Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - Rancho Cucamonga extended its winning streak to five consecutive games, cruising past High Desert 8-1 at LoanMart Field on Monday night.
The Quakes (27-23, 68-52) jumped out in front against Mavericks' starter David Perez (2-1) in the first inning. Delvis Morales stroked a leadoff single to right field. Alex Verdugo tripled down the right field line, chasing Morales home with the first run of the contest. Jacob Scavuzzo followed with a single up the middle, scoring Verdugo to make it 2-0.
Rancho Cucamonga flexed some muscle in the bottom of the third against Perez. Kyle Garlick launched an opposite-field homer over the right field fence for his second in a Quakes' uniform, giving his club a 3-0 lead.
On the mound, Quakes' starter Scott Barlow (6-2) was dominant. The right-hander pitched seven scoreless innings, limiting High Desert (27-22, 64-55) to four hits, a walk and a hit batter in winning his second straight start. Barlow, who missed over two months of the season with a right shoulder injury, has surrendered just one run over his last 13 innings.
The Quakes' offense continued to roll against Mavericks' reliever Anyelo Leclerc in the sixth inning. Paul Hoenecke doubled to left-center field to lead off the frame. Tyler Ogle blasted a two-run home run to left field for his 19th of the season and fourth in the last six games, staking the home team to a 5-0 cushion.
Rancho Cucamonga tacked on some insurance runs in the seventh. Verdugo led off the inning with a double to left field against Leclerc and advanced to third on a Scavuzzo groundout. A throwing error by catcher David Lyon on a pickoff attempt allowed Verdugo to trot home. Kyle Garlick reached on an infield single. Hoenecke singled to right, moving Garlick to third. With right-hander David Ledbetter on in relief, a wild pitch allowed Garlick to hustle home. Ogle singled to left field, plating Hoenecke for an 8-0 advantage.
After Joe Broussard tossed a scoreless eighth inning for the Quakes, High Desert mustered its only offense in the ninth against right-hander Kyle Hooper. Evan Van Hoosier tripled down the left field line and came home on Royce Bolinger's single to left field, spoiling Rancho Cucamonga's shutout bid. Cam Maron's fly out to right fielder Joey Curletta ended the contest and gave the Quakes an 8-1 triumph.
With the victory, Rancho Cucamonga closed to within a half-game of High Desert for first place in the South Division second-half standings. The Quakes also clinched the season series against the Mavericks, having won 12 of the first 20 meetings with two remaining.
The Quakes continue their homestand with the middle game of the series against High Desert on Tuesday night. Rancho Cucamonga will send right-hander Pablo Fernandez (2-0, 3.31 ERA) to the mound, while the Mavericks counter with right-hander Richelson Pena (9-8, 5.03 ERA). First pitch at LoanMart Field is scheduled for 7:05 pm. If you can't make it to the ballpark, you can follow all the action on FOX Sports 1350 AM, beginning with the LoanMart Pregame Show at 6:50.
The second game of the series against High Desert is a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday!
