
Martes Dominates for Third Straight Win

LANCASTER, Calif. - Francis Martes pitched his third straight quality start, and the JetHawks rode a seven-run second inning to an 8-0 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers on Monday night at The Hangar.
Through seven innings for the JetHawks (61-59), Martes (3-1) struck out nine batters and allowed just one walk and five hits en route to his second straight quality start against the 66ers (58-61). The shutout was Lancaster's ninth of the season and second straight at home.
Chase McDonald homered in his second straight game, and Sean McMullen went 3-for-4, driving in two runs. Eight of nine JetHawks batters recorded at least one hit in the game.
Ronnie Mitchell led off the bottom of the second inning with a single off Jordan Kipper (6-9) and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, three consecutive RBI doubles by McMullen, Mott Hyde and Marc Wik gave the JetHawks a 3-0 lead. Wik then advanced to third on a James Ramsay single, and Alex Bregman plated Wik with a groundout. Derek Fisher drew a walk, and McDonald followed with a three-run homer to left-center, his team-leading 25th home run of the season.
Kipper lasted just 1.2 innings, yielding seven runs on seven hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out two.
Lancaster's final run came in the fifth against Inland Empire reliever Ronnie Muck, as Mitchell led off with a triple and scored on a McMullen single.
Jordan Mills provided two innings of scoreless relief for the JetHawks to seal the series-opening win.
The 66ers went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven men on base.
The series continues on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Austin Chrismon (5-3, 4.19) will start for Lancaster, and Inland Empire will send Victor Alcantara (6-10, 5.95) to the mound.
