Quakes Foundation, PG&E Donate $38,500 to Seven Bay Area Organizations

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Quakes Foundation, in partnership with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Corporation Foundation, donated a total of $38,750 across seven humanitarian organizations rooted in the Bay Area for Giving Tuesday: Hunger at Home, Loaves & Fishes, Alameda County Community Food Bank, Nuestra Casa, CityTeam, PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) and Martha's Kitchen. The Quakes and PG&E are incredibly grateful for each recipient's unwavering support and look forward to continuing partnerships in 2024.

This annual initiative stems from the Earthquakes' Pledge 74 campaign, an organization-wide program that aims to combat food insecurity concerns in the Bay Area. Pledge 74 was named after the team's founding in 1974 and carries with it a legacy of nearly 50 years of community service.

Hunger at Home

Founded in 2020, Hunger at Home, partners with local convention centers, hotels and sports stadiums to collect excess food and goods to distribute to the hungry and homeless in Silicon Valley. To date, Hunger at Home has donated 11 million meals locally and helped distribute much needed items like towels, blankets, kitchen items and hygiene kits.

Loaves & Fishes

Loaves & Fishes, since their start in 1980, has been providing hot and nutritious prepared meals, delivered and served to feed hungry families, children, seniors, veterans, students and disabled individuals in the Bay Area. Loaves & Fishes provides over 1.5 million meals each year throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.

Alameda County Community Food Bank

Founded in 1988, The Alameda County Community Food Bank, partners with more than 420 food pantries, hot meal programs, senior centers and other non-profits to distribute millions of pounds of food each year. The organization serves enough to feed 60,000 people per day throughout Alameda County.

Nuestra Casa

Since emerging in East Palo Alto in 2002, Nuestra Casa has provided Latino families with an average of 5,800 grocery kits while rescuing over 15,000 pounds of edible food from landfill each month. The organization also continues to connect over 1,500 community members to core agencies or case management for safety and community involvement assistance throughout the mid-Peninsula.

CityTeam

In assisting five cities across California and Oregon, City Team has served 5 million hot meals, provided 105,000 nights of shelter and given out $1.5 million worth of clothing. Each city program utilizes food pantries, hot meal services, transitional housing programs and career counseling in order to support their communities.

PATH

Since opening their San Jose office in 2015, PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) has addressed street homelessness in downtown San Jose by providing outreach to those who are homeless, connecting them to services and linking them to housing. PATH San Jose envisions a world where every person has a home and values creative collaborations, strategic leadership, empowerment for all and passionate commitment.

Martha's Kitchen

Between its hot meal and grocery programs, Martha's Kitchen provides nearly 250,000 meals each month. While it has called San Jose home since its founding in 1981, the organization feels called to provide food security to as many communities as possible. Martha's Kitchen believes that food is a basic human right, not a luxury. It is vital that these communities have access to well-balanced meals, which include proper proteins, vegetables and carbohydrates.
