Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Visalia, CA - A two-run double in the last of the seventh was all the Visalia Rawhide needed on Saturday night, as the Quakes dropped a 2-1 heart-breaker at Recreation Park.
Despite five shutout innings from starter John Rooney, the Quakes dropped their fourth straight game overall and are in danger of being swept for the first time since early-April.
Miguel Vargas put the Quakes on the board in the first inning, as he doubled home Donovan Casey to make it 1-0 against Visalia starter Justin Lewis.
That would be the only blemish for Lewis though, as he allowed just one run on four hits over six innings.
Rooney cruised through five scoreless, allowing three hits and one walk, while matching a career-best eight punch-outs. Rooney, who picked off two base-runners in his last start, nabbed three more on Saturday to help his own cause.
The Rawhide finally broke through on reliever Max Gamboa in the seventh. Gamboa (5-4) opened the inning with a walk to Yoel Yanqui. With two outs, Alex King then walked. Jorge Perez followed with the game-winner, a two-run double to right-center field to put the Rawhide ahead to stay at 2-1.
The Quakes went 1-2-3 in the eighth against eventual winner Jayson McKinley (3-0) and couldn't do anything in the ninth, despite a one-out walk to Jeter Downs from Cameron Gann, who earned his first save.
Rancho (67-47, 23-20) will send Andre Jackson (3-1) to the mound on Sunday at 6:00pm in the series-finale. Going for the Rawhide will be Jeff Bain (5-8).
On Tuesday, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as ten CRV-eligible bottles and cans will get you a FREE Club Seat Ticket to the game. Purchase your tickets at rcquakes.com or by calling (909) 481-5000... Go Quakes!
