Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- For the first time in since last Friday, the Quakes plated a run first. They got their run in the second inning after Jay Brossman led off with a walk and advanced to third on a Jeremy Moore single. Brossman would score on a double play ground out off the bat of Efren Navarro.

It would be Navarro coming up clutch in the 4th inning as he came up with two outs and runners on first and second, and blasted a three-run home run to right field, his first of the year, giving the Quakes a 4-0 lead.

Against the 66ers' bullpen, Rancho added a single run in the 5th on an RBI base hit by Andrew Romine and would get three more in the 6th on RBI hits by PJ Phillips and Clay Fuller.

But the story was Quakes starter Tim Kiely on a night when Rancho had little help in the bullpen. Kiely did not allow a hit until the 4th inning and did not allow a run in seven innings of work. He struck out a career high eight and did not walk a batter.

The 66ers got two runs late on a two-run home run by Preston Mattingly, but that was it as the Quakes won for the first time at home in 2009, 8-2.

The Quakes will host Inland Empire for game two of the four game series on Friday night. Robert Fish will get the ball in his home debut against right hander Chris Withrow of the 66ers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35pm.
