Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes snapped their six-game losing streak on Wednesday and looked to continue their success on Thursday against the Stockton Ports. But the Ports brought the bats to the Epicenter early. In the 2nd inning, Stockton blasted three home runs, a solo shot by Grant Desme and two two-run homers by Matt Smith and Dusty Coleman to grab a 5-0 lead.

With one out in the 3rd, Desme stepped up and blasted another solo home run to make the Ports lead 6-0.

Rancho answered with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd as Andrew Romine singled to center to score Hector Estrella and Carlos Colmenares delivered a RBI sac-fly to right to score Alberto Rosario to cut the lead to 6-2.

The Quakes came back with two more in the 4th as Andrew Romine blooped a single into right center to score Clay Fuller and Hector Estrella to make the score 6-4.

In the 7th, Andrew Romine drew a one out walk and Abel Nieves came up with two away and blasted a two-run game tying home run to make it a 6-6 game.

Kevin Nabors came out of the Quakes bullpen in the 8th and hit Grant Desme to start the inning. After a ground out got the runner to second, Matt Smith followed with an RBI single to break the tie making it 7-6. Christian Vitters then followed with a two-run home run to put the Ports ahead 9-6.

Rancho then plated a run in the bottom of the 8th after Clay Fuller walked and made it to third with one out before scoring on a sac-fly from Alberto Rosario, to make the score 9-7. The Quakes would not score again and dropped the first game of the four game set against Stockton.

The Quakes will continue their series with Stockton Friday. Right hander Matt Shoemaker will be on the mound for the Quakes against left hander Pedro Figueroa for the Ports. Game time is scheduled for 7:35pm.
