Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes dropped their season-high fifth straight game on Tuesday night, as the High Desert Mavericks earned a 1-0 shut-out win at The Epicenter.
Quakes' starter Orangel Arenas turned in a gem but got no run support. An Edilio Colina two-out RBI single off the top of the third-base bag, plated Maximo Mendez in the fifth inning for the lone run of the game. Arenas (6-3) allowed just the one run on seven hits over seven innings.
High Desert starter Jon Hesketh was even better than Arenas. Hesketh (3-3) allowed just three hits and struck out a season-high ten, over eight scoreless frames.
Michael Piazza and Eddie McKiernan each worked a scoreless frame for the Quakes, in an attempt to keep it close and give the offense a chance to break out. Hesketh retired the final five hitters he faced though, before turning it over to Jon Moran, who worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first save of the year.
The Quakes (25-25, 64-56) remain just one game back of first place in the South Division. Ryan Chaffee (5-5) will try to get the Quakes on track on Wednesday, as he takes on High Desert righthander Kenn Kasparek (7-3) at 7:05pm.
1,000 fans will receive a free Quakes' Alumni Player Magnet on Wednesday night.
Gates open at 6:05pm and tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter....Go Quakes!
