Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga earned their first shut-out of the 2010 season on Monday afternoon, blanking the Lake Elsinore Storm by a score of 4-0 to salvage the final game of the four-game series at The Epicenter.

Tyler Chatwood, Robert Fish and Jeremy Haynes combined on the four-hitter, as the Quakes also ended the Storm's five-game winning streak, pulling back to within three games in the South Division.

Chatwood (3-2) worked around four walks in his first three innings, tossing 5 2/3 innings and extending his personal shut-out streak to 10 2/3 innings over his last two starts.

The Quakes got to Storm starter Anthony Bass for a run in the second, as Gabe Jacobo led off with a double and eventually scored on Rian Kiniry's fielder's choice, making it 1-0.

It remained a one-run game until the sixth, when Roberto Lopez singled and scored on Jacobo's RBI triple. Jacobo later scored on a passed ball, giving the Quakes a 3-0 advantage.

Jacobo struck again in the eighth, doubling home Darwin Perez to extend the advantage to 4-0.

Jeremy Haynes worked the final two innings of relief, picking up his first save of the 2010 season.

Bass (1-2) took the loss for the Storm, allowing three earned runs over seven innings.

Lopez finished the game with a pair of hits, giving him a Cal League-best 23-game hitting streak. Lake Elsinore's Drew Cumberland saw his 18-game hitting streak come to an end, as he went 0-for-4.

With the victory, the Quakes end their three-game losing streak and move back to .500 at 16-16. The Quakes open a three-game series with the Lancaster JetHawks on Tuesday night at The Epicenter, sending Ryan Chaffee (1-1) to the mound against JetHawks' right-hander Ross Seaton (1-2) at 7:05pm.
