Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Offense was the theme of the game for the JetHawks on Mothers' Day as Lancaster posted a 14-8 victory over Inland Empire before 1,301 fans at Clear Channel Stadium Sunday. The JetHawks pounded out 17 hits in the ballgame and won their fourth consecutive contest. Lancaster will seek a sweep of the four-game series with the 66ers when the two teams meet at 11 a.m. on Monday.

The JetHawks seized the early lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Mark Ori hit a two-run single in the inning and Federico Hernandez belted a two-run home run, his first round-tripper of the season, to put Lancaster in front 4-0.

Inland Empire answered with three runs in the top of the second. Nick Buss delivered a two-run single off JetHawks starter Shane Wolf and Justin Sellers added an RBI double, which made it a 4-3 contest.

The 66ers grabbed the lead an inning later when Matt Wallach smacked a two-run homer off Wolf to put Inland Empire in front 5-4.

But the JetHawks responded with an offensive outburst in the bottom of the fourth. Lancaster scored six runs on six hits, including a two-run single from Freddy Parejo and a two-run double by Ori. By the end of the inning, the JetHawks held a comfortable 10-5 lead and had chased 66ers starter Ethan Martin from the game.

Lancaster tacked on two more runs in the fifth when Jay Austin smoked an RBI triple and David Flores added an RBI single that plated Austin.

Mike Modica (1-0) delivered an impressive performance in his JetHawks debut. The southpaw reliever, who was promoted from Lexington on Friday, tossed three and 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and allowed just four hits. He earned the win for Lancaster. Martin (3-2) took the loss for the 66ers.

The JetHawks will be seeking their first series sweep of the season when the two teams square off in the series finale on Monday morning at the Hangar. Right-hander Leandro Cespedes (0-1, 7.62 ERA) gets the start for Lancaster. The 66ers are expected to counter with right-hander Jon Michael Redding (0-2, 4.60 ERA). First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m. Tune in for all the live action beginning with the JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 10:45 a.m. on www.jethawks.com/csn and News Talk 1380-AM KOSS.
