
Quakes Back on Track with Thrashing of Lake Elsinore

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - Rancho Cucamonga maintained its perfect home record against Lake Elsinore this season, improving to 9-0 against the Storm at LoanMart Field with a 10-5 victory on Thursday night.
The Quakes (16-16, 57-45) took the lead for good in the second inning against Lake Elsinore starter Brad Wieck (0-4). Trailing 1-0, Brandon Dixon started the flurry with an infield single. Jacob Scavuzzo roped a double to left field, scoring Dixon to tie the contest at 1-1. Tyler Ogle chased Scavuzzo home on an RBI groundout, giving the home team a 2-1 advantage.
Rancho Cucamonga expanded the margin in the bottom of the fourth. Dixon led off the inning with a double to left field against Wieck. Scavuzzo reached on an infield hit. Ogle walked to load the bases. Joey Curletta's walk forced Dixon home. Spencer Navin plated Scavuzzo with an RBI groundout to second base. Tim Locastro doubled to left field, scoring Ogle and Curletta for a 6-1 edge.
The Quakes blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth against Storm reliever Genison Reyes. Holding a 6-2 lead, Cody Bellinger doubled to right field. Dixon singled for his third hit of the game and was lifted for pinch-runner Kyle Hudson. After Hudson stole second base, Scavuzzo singled over the drawn-in infield to chase Bellinger and Hudson home. Curletta doubled down the left field line, plating Scavuzzo. Navin capped the second consecutive four-run inning with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Curletta for a 10-2 cushion.
Lake Elsinore (8-25, 39-64) opened the scoring in the top of the first against Quakes' starter John Richy (9-3). Auston Bousfield doubled to start the contest. Nick Torres drove him in with a double to center field, giving the visitors the early 1-0 lead.
The Storm received an unexpected jolt in the fifth inning against Richy. Trailing 6-1, Felipe Blanco stroked an opposite-field solo homer to right-center for his first in a Lake Elsinore uniform, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
Lake Elsinore got another run back against Richy in the sixth. Facing a 10-2 hole, Gabriel Quintana and Chase Jensen delivered back-to-back singles. Blanco doubled to left, sending Quintana home to make it a 10-3 contest.
Richy lasted six innings, allowing three runs, nine hits and a walk while striking out four. The right-hander's ninth win of the season places him second in the California League, behind Harrison Musgrave of Modesto (10).
The Storm added another fencepost in the seventh inning against reliever Kyle Hooper. Torres singled to center field and came home on Marcus Davis' double to center field, trimming the margin to 10-4.
Lake Elsinore tallied its final run in the eighth against right-hander Rob Rogers. Jensen and Ricardo Valenzuela opened the inning with singles. Blanco grounded into a fielder's choice, placing runners at the corners. Nick Schulz doubled to left field, plating Jensen for a 10-5 score.
Dan Tillman retired Lake Elsinore in order during the ninth inning to improve Rancho Cucamonga to a California League-best 31-20 record at LoanMart Field this season.
With the win, the Quakes are now 13-4 overall against the Storm during the 2015 campaign.
Rancho Cucamonga continues the four-game series against Lake Elsinore on Friday night. Rehabbing Dodgers' right-hander Carlos Frias (0-0, 27.00 ERA) is expected to make the start for the Quakes, while the Storm counter with right-hander Matt Shepherd (2-6, 5.63 ERA).
