Lancaster JetHawks News Release
ADELANTO, Calif. - After taking a one-run lead in the top of the eighth, the JetHawks were unable to hold on as the High Desert Mavericks scored three runs in the bottom half to hand Lancaster a 5-3 loss on Thursday night at Heritage Field.
James Ramsay, Derek Fisher and J.D. Davis each drove in a run for the JetHawks (53-50), who left nine men on base and went 4-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
In his high-A debut, JetHawks starter David Paulino limited the Mavericks (53-47) to two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out four.
With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ronald Guzman hit a go-ahead, two-run homer off JetHawks tandem starter Francis Martes (0-1). Lancaster had entered the inning leading 3-2 before Royce Bolinger tied the game with a RBI-single to left field.
Fisher had tied the score for the JetHawks in the top half with a RBI-triple off Ryne Slack. Davis then greeted new reliever John Fasola (2-2) with a go-ahead RBI-double to right-center.
Fasola issued a pair of one-out walks in the ninth inning to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but a popout and a strikeout dropped Lancaster in the opening game of the series.
Trey Lambert went seven innings for the Mavericks, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out four.
High Desert opened the scoring with a Joe Jackson RBI-triple in the first inning. After neither team scored in the second, Ramsay tied the game for Lancaster in the third with a RBI-single. Chris Garia drove in Guzman from third in the fifth inning to put the Mavericks back in the lead.
The series continues on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Kevin Comer (1-3, 4.38) will take the mound for the JetHawks against the Mavericks' Connor Sadzeck (2-1, 4.06).
