Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
The Quad City Steamwheelers, defending Champions of the IFL's Eastern Conference, have signed wide receiver John Brunner.
While playing for Western Illinois University, he caught 53 passes for 745 yards and 3 touchdowns. In 2022 with the Bismarck Bucks, Brunner caught 39 passes for 382 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Director of Player Personnel Ryan Michael told SteamwheelersFootball.com "At 6'3, 200-John is a tremendous threat in the red zone. His leaping ability, long arms and soft hands make him a mis-match for a lot of defensive backs in our league. If you go back to his college tape at Western Illinois, you can appreciate his sense of footwork in relation to ball-possession and boundaries. I'm excited to see what he'll bring to camp."
Brunner played in 10 games for the Bucks last season-hauling in 3+ receptions in 9 of them and averaging 4.3 receptions/game in those matchups. On 5/20/22, he caught a touchdown against the Steamwheelers in the Vibrant Arena. Now, he joins the Wheeler family.
"We played against John a couple times last season and he stood out every time. He has the size and toughness we need and also catches everything thrown his way. Excited to see him in training camp. " said Head Coach Cory Ross.
